Save 70% or More Buying Used Camping Gear

So you need to find some camping gear for your first trip. One of my favorite ways of saving a lot of money on camping gear and supplies is to buy used camping gear. Used camping gear can save you a bundle when you want to cut costs while getting some gear, but it can backfire if you purchase the wrong thing.

Garage Sales = Cheap Used Camping Gear

You can find your very best deals at garage sales. But who has the time to scrounge garage sale. You don’t know which garage sale has camping gear unless the ad indicates it. Otherwise you have to drive to the garage sale. A couple of wasted trips equals wasted money.

My favorite place to buy used camping gear is eBay. I usually buy several items a year on ebay and save a lot. I’ve never had any problems as most of the sellers are honest folks trying to make an extra buck or maybe just trying to clear out the garage. Most of the items a re guaranteed.

There can be many reasons why this stuff is for sale. However, the great thing about used camping gear is that often people will sell the gear they used once or twice. Usually, it comes from newbie’s who buy a bunch of new gear to try camping out and decide that it’s not to their liking. What this means for you is you get gear that’s nearly new for much less than you’d actually pay.

No matter what the reason you can really save a bundle sometimes. Last March I purchased a brand new in the box Coleman dual mantel lantern for only $11.50 plus shipping was only $8.20 because it was located nearby. You’ll find everything here. Lanterns, backpacks, flashlight, sleeping bags, stoves, generators, heaters, showers. It’s all there.

Why Buy Used Camping Gear

The chief benefit of buying used camping equipment is, of course, the lower cost you’ll pay for items.

Buying used camping gear is a good idea in a few situations, usually when you have someone new to camping. For instance, if you have a child in Boy Scouts looking to go on his first campout, buying used camping gear can get him started without spending too much. Likewise, if you’re going on your first camping trip and don’t like the idea of spending hundreds at the local sporting good store, you can spend less buy purchasing used gear. This will ultimately save you money if you later decide that camping isn’t for you.

The Bad Of Purchasing Used Camping Gear

The number one problem with used camping gear, is that sometimes there’s a good reason why the individual has put it up for sale. Just as will all goods, some are better than others, and you may find that the gear you purchase is of poor quality. However, you can help ease the likelihood of getting bad used camping gear by researching product reviews online or on eBay look at the sellers feedback rating and comments. If you’re purchasing used gear in a store, be sure to try items like backpacks on so you know that they weren’t being sold just because they’re uncomfortable to wear.

Another, more minor problem with used camping gear is that you’re limited in style and color to what’s available when you’re shopping. Of course, while that’s not ideal, your camping gear should be bought for function first, then looks. But with a little research to make sure you know what it is that you want to buy, used camping gear can save you a bunch of money when you’re preparing for your camping trip. If you’re trying to decide if you should go for used or new camping gear, you should weigh the pros and cons first.

I’ve put up this Ebay search form on all my pages so you can look around. Have Fun!
