Are you new to camping? It's my personal opinion but I don’t think there is a better way to enjoy life than sitting under a tall tree seeing the sun light dance on the surface of a flowing stream. The water trickling sounds like a lullaby as it flows over the rocks and the smell of nature cannot be duplicated. No other sensation can create such a peaceful feeling within me. The scene is painted with an occasional sound of a squirrel or the whistling of a hawk as it passes overheard. There is so much going on in nature if you can learn to sit quietly and pay attention. Who knows, the creatures making the sounds may even present themselves for a closer visual review. Like the time the buzzards swooped down and stole my thawing steaks from the table. Things are not always pleasant in the great outdoors.
And then there is nighttime too! Sometimes it is the best. If you are willing to turn the lanterns off and let the fire burn down, you will find your attention drawn out to the moon overhead, the shadows from the starlight. You can stop wonder in deep contemplation of the magnificence of the universe to the insignificance of your own being. Be careful though, if you stare long enough the light of the stars gets so bright it will hurt your eyes. Oh, what’s this wondering into camp? It’s a skunk! No one move! All is not always good in the outdoors. To some people and I'm one of them, the outdoors experience knows no equal. Still, camping is not for everyone. So don't dive in head first till you are sure you will like the water. Start simply!

What Do You Need To Purchase First?
1. Lanterns
2. Tents
3. Cooking stove
4. Sleeping bags
5. Cooler
6. Camping gear sleeping cots
You really don‘t need any of these things. A lantern is the most overused and unnecessary piece of equipment you may need. It’s fun to sit in the dark with only a campfire for light. You don't need much light if you do things before dark and besides the fire supplies enough light for most chores. A flashlight can give you all the light you need away from the fire. A cooking stove is not necessary either because you can cook off the fire or eat things that doesn't need cooking. A tent is only necessary item you need if you pick a weekend when it‘s raining. If not you can take an air mattress and sleep right on the ground or if you have a pickup truck you can sleep in the bed. A tarp is nice addition should you get a shower. If things get worse your car will always keep you dry. Sleeping bags are the convenient and they will keep you warm but they can actually be too warm.
If you don't get fancy with the food then you don't need a lot to cook and prepare your meals with either. When I first started camping as a child we slept on air mattresses in the back of the old station wagon.
Think simple. As you go camping more buy more camping gear as it is needed.
