The first thing to consider before buying new equipment should be how often you intend on using the tents and camping gear. If your intending to camp only once a year you may not want to spend as much on tent and camping gear as someone who intends on camping three or more times a year. The next aspect to consider is the time of year the you plan to camp the most and where the camping will be done is also important to ponder. Most tents and camping gear are rated for three seasons which basically means not great for winter camping. Some tents and camping gear are able to withstand the elements year round, but they will cost considerably more. These tents and camping gear are not well suited for very hot conditions just as some are not well suited to very cold. Don’t buy summer camping gear made for summer in Texas camping if you are going to camp in the Rockies in the summer at 8500 feet in elevation and vice versa. The temperature rating should be regarded for the best information about the likely comfort level in extreme hot or cold temperatures. Knowing how you will reach your camping destination is another important item to take into consideration. Selecting a tent and camping gear which will fit in the back of a pickup truck is much different from the same items on a canoe. Likewise someone backpacking will want lighter gear compared to a family at a national park. The number of people camping must also be taken into consideration. Tents are rated by temperature and by how many people they are able to accommodate. The number of occupants per tent is highly subjective, some people are more comfortable than others, in tight spaces and each camper will bring a different amount of gear. The amount of camping gear in the tent can affect how comfortable you will be in the tent; four adults with full gear and a couple of dogs would likely be more comfortable in a six or larger person tent or two, two person tents. Buying the right tent and camping equipment can make the difference between a treasured memory and a trip from hell.
